EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, IT – Canada

TITLE: Executive Director, IT

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, augmented by additional Business Administration training or certification.
• Two years of successful IT supervision and/or management experience, preferably in a post-secondary academic environment.
• Minimum five years of experience working in a complex Information Technology environment, preferably in an academic setting.
• Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management and project development.
• Highly refined interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with staff and external consultants.
• Extensive knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting and business office operations.
• Competence to service needs and operate existing computer, telecommunications and network technology.
• Experience with database operation and programming.
• Experience with integration of ERP systems with business processes.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client, is in search of a great leader, someone dependable, a self-starter, and a decision maker who can take the lead on a high volume of projects. Reporting directly to the President, you will be responsible in ensuring that our client’s technology vision and direction is carried out to meet their long term goals.
• Supervise day-to-day operations of the department, including network administration, computer operations and support. Select, train and evaluate department staff.
• Authorize and oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development and support of all hardware and software based on department needs.
• Evaluate overall effectiveness of network operations and existing technologies. Where necessary, re-engineer applications support to ensure it aligns with academic priorities, business processes, tactical planning, and strategic vision.
• Working closely with decision makers in other departments, research, recommend, acquire software applications and computer hardware to meet their company needs, and ensure that they have competitive technology within the context of a rapidly changing external IT environment.
• Develop and recommend organization-wide policies with respect to network user access, system security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, service provision and network use.
• Maintain detailed system-level documentation with respect to configuration and operation of existing systems.
• Develop and submit annual budget for review and approval. Administer the budget and adjust available dollars to deliver necessary services.
• Oversee provision of end-user services, including help-desk and technical support services.
• Oversee negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourced and consultant contracts and service agreements.
• Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation and discipline.
• Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with senior management and users regarding pertinent IT activities.
• Act as the external community liaison with regards to the IT industry.
