Welcome to the second part of the article – Immigrating to Australia as an Information Security Professional!
First of all, I’d like to thank everyone who contacted me about the process with questions, comments and suggestions. Unfortunately I’m not able to answer to all of you, but rest assured I’ve read every e-mail received and I’ll do my best to address all concerns throughout the article.
So, as promised before, let me try to put down all the planning required to migrate. I’ll try to be as precise as I can, but since it’s been a few years ago, some things might have changed. Click here to continue reading Immigrating to Australia as an Information Security Professional – part 2
Dear readers,
As you might know, I’ve finalized my relocation to Australia last week. After roughly 2 years getting prepared and waiting for the Skilled Migrant visa to be granted, my patience has paid off and I say with authority that this is a land of opportunities! The Information Security market is heated right now, and I’ve attended 7 interviews during my first 3 days in Sydney. Hopefully I’ll get myself a job very soon!
But since I’ve been going through the interview process for several positions with different requirements (Infosec Auditor, Security engineer, Security Manager and so on), and now that you know how to deal with the HR interview, I’ve decided to share with you some of the Information Security questions I’ve been asked so far, plus some I’ve researched on Internet. A salary rise, possibly a company car and meetings at fancy restaurants, all the stuff you only heard and longed for will become routine for you, isn’t that great? … Until you realize that becoming a manager has its price. That’s what we’ll talk about in this article.

In one of our previous article we already discussed what an Information Security degree would bring you; now, let’s tackle this tricky question: “What security certification should I pursue?”
Throughout my career, I constantly heard a ready-made answer: CISSP! (even though the person was not able to tell what CISSP stands for). Try it yourself: Whenever you have a chance, ask your workmates the very same question. I bet someone will mention it before you finish the sentence. It’s a kind of wildcard answer: Security? No matter what area/position the person works for, say CISSP and you’ll be alright.
But is that the definitive answer for this question?
